First JWHS Band 2016 Field Show Offers Opportunity to 8th Grade Students
James Wood High School will hold its first football game of the 2016 season on Friday, August 26, 2016, at 7 p.m. “The Colonel’s Pride” James Wood High School band under the direction of Jeffrey Rutherford, has offered 8th grade band students from Frederick County Middle School and James Wood Middle School an exciting opportunity to participate during the event. Students will perform the National Anthem on the field with The Colonel’s Pride and then remain with band members throughout the game.
“Students arrive at James Wood at 4 p.m. to practice with us, eat dinner with us and then play music with us. It really gives them an opportunity to see what being in band is like in high school,” Rutherford states. Students and guests will also get a first look at the JWHS field show for this year “A Night at the Theatre 2016” which features music from several popular musicals like Phantom of the Opera, Hair Spray, and Les Miserables.
James Wood High School, established in 1950, was the only high school that served Frederick County at that time. The Colonel’s Pride is the James Wood High School Band – a group of students who work together during the school and non-school hours to present an award winning musical program. Through a strong parent organization and continued dedication of the Frederick County School Board and students, the James Wood High School Band has become a well-respected organization within the Frederick County community, Winchester, VA community and the State of Virginia.
